Jubilee Furniture weekly update post for Thursday, May 14, 2015

Susan photoJFC 05-14-15 075

I ran into a volunteer I’d worked closely with throughout the move into our current building – who I hadn’t seen in a good six months – and he didn’t recognize me. It wasn’t until I put these two photos side-by-side that I could see why he hadn’t.

I still have those same glasses (though will be getting new ones soon) – but when I decided to go short with my hair last December I quickly realized either I’d have to color it every other week (‘cause it grows so fast) or go gray. Obviously, I decided to go gray.

And you know what? I love it.

If you have no idea who I am – let me introduce myself and give you some of my back story. I’m Susan Galbraith and I worked as the Jubilee Furniture General Manager for 7 1/2 years and had the privilege of working alongside an incredible board, fabulous volunteers (I’m talking about you, Teresa! – though many others too) and excellent warehouse staff (Hi John, Cam, Gary and Dale!) and helped grow Jubilee Furniture into what it is today (and what a ride it’s been!).

Just over a year ago, my general manager role was divided into two (since it had grown too large for one person) with one position that of Store Operations Manager and the other, Regional Manager/Business Development. The very capable and personable Crista Olsen is our Store Operations Manager and the face you’ll see when you shop at the store.

I’m the voice at the end of the phone when people call to donate furniture. I’m also responsible for this blog. I do other things as well but I’m trying not to bore you – too much! Most of what I do is behind the scenes and utilizes a lot of my strengths though, to this day, I miss interacting with customers and volunteers.

Enough about me! Let’s get to the good stuff! We hit the retro furniture mother load recently and have some amazing pieces – all in excellent condition – available for purchase. Remember, the Furniture Gallery is another source of photos and prices.

excellent condition floral sofa with large nail-head trim – priced $125

JFC 05-14-15 003JFC 05-14-15 004

flip the long seat cushion over and move the separate ottoman base to the other side of the couch and you instantly change this sofa/left chaise combo to a sofa/right chaise one! Fabric worn in places and a rip on the back bottom corner. Priced $125

AMAZING retro orange Naugahyde and chrome chair by Royalchrome (“Distinctive Furniture” from the Royal Metal Mfg. Co.). Chrome needs cleaning up but otherwise in great condition and very comfortable! Priced $215

“Hold onto your feathers, Little Bird!” (Haha – that’s a line from a Sesame Street video my kids watched – 100 years ago – that Big Bird said to Little Bird when a storm hits their neighborhood and blows a neighbor's laundry off her line. I can’t remember the rest of it but it seemed like Big Bird and Little Bird had a chance to help the neighbor before the storm and didn’t because they wanted to play ball and then all her laundry blew into a mud puddle and they felt sad and bad. Moral of the story? Help others or they’ll have to wear dirty clothes and it will be your fault. Right?).

ANYWAY – here are, in my humble opinion, some amazing pieces at super duper prices that will blow your socks off (thus my first sentence that started all of this)! Retro Naugahyde chair with fabulous nail-head trim – all in EXCELLENT condition (and really, really comfortable too). Chair is priced $85. Identical chair AND rolling ottoman for $125. I predict these are going to fly out of the store as soon as we open at 1 pm today

JFC 05-14-15 023JFC 05-14-15 024

so, so pretty two piece china cabinet by John A. Colby – in excellent condition – priced $185

JFC 05-14-15 025JFC 05-14-15 026

lovely oak writing desk by JOFCO (out of Jasper, IN) – top needs some refinishing – priced $45

JFC 05-14-15 027JFC 05-14-15 028JFC 05-14-15 029JFC 05-14-15 030

and then LOOK at this vintage pedestal table with four rolling, sunny yellow chairs! I couldn’t find a label anywhere – but these are the real deal. Again, in excellent condition (other than needing to be cleaned – I couldn’t find a single issue with any of the chairs). Priced $245 for the set

JFC 05-14-15 031JFC 05-14-15 032JFC 05-14-15 033JFC 05-14-15 034JFC 05-14-15 035JFC 05-14-15 036

this old kitchen cabinet from the Boone Kitchen Cabinet company out of Labanon, IN is AMAZING and my favorite part is the list of foods on the metal sign on the inside door where you can move a red peg to indicate you’re running low on something. At my house the “buy more” button would permanently be on both alcohol and lard! Haha! Priced $155

JFC 05-14-15 039JFC 05-14-15 040

very nice small loveseat that opens into a twin size bed! Priced only $35

JFC 05-14-15 041JFC 05-14-15 042

one issue with this fantastic SmithCraft plaid sofa – on two of the back cushions at the top where you might rest your head – it’s sort of stained and the fabric is hard. I THINK you could clean that and it would be great – but I’m not sure. Priced $60

JFC 05-14-15 043JFC 05-14-15 044

if you need some solid wood chairs which are very attractive and structurally in excellent condition by a company known for their quality (Ethan Allen) – then lend an ear. There are SEVEN of these chairs (all armless) and other than the stain at the top of each chair having been worn off by the many hands pulling them away from the table – they’re wonderful! Priced $140 for all SEVEN (that’s $20 a chair which is a GREAT deal)

JFC 05-14-15 045JFC 05-14-15 046

very nice deep rust color, wide wale corduroy sleeper sofa – priced $45

JFC 05-14-15 047JFC 05-14-15 048

this one piece open china cabinet by Stanley is in wonderful condition and though definitely has a country flavor – would work well in a variety of settings (bedroom) and with other styles. Priced $75

JFC 05-14-15 049JFC 05-14-15 050JFC 05-14-15 051JFC 05-14-15 052

it’s sort of hard to see because there are wood pieces all around this one – but this is an open shelf, solid wood bookcase. There must have been a plant on one of the shelves because there’s water damage – but otherwise in great shape. Priced $55

JFC 05-14-15 053JFC 05-14-15 054

EXCELLENT condition custom 3/4 bed (wider than a twin but smaller than a full) which includes: headboard, footboard and metal side rails AND custom-made mattress and box spring (in super excellent condition) – donated by one of our volunteers. Priced $125 for all!

JFC 05-14-15 055JFC 05-14-15 056JFC 05-14-15 057JFC 05-14-15 058JFC 05-14-15 059JFC 05-14-15 061JFC 05-14-15 062JFC 05-14-15 063

and our final photos are of a gorgeous retro bedroom set – all by the Robinson Furniture Co. – which includes: eight drawer dresser with mirror for $165; full size headboard (some of the stain if off a part of the headboard) for $40; 2 drawer nightstand for $50; bench (or could be used as a coffee table) for $85 (this piece got separated from the rest of the set and is displayed as a coffee table in front of a sofa – but the donor told me it was originally a bench that you’d find at the end of a bed)

Gotta get going, dear reader! Thanks – as always – for stopping by!
